Last Week’s Match Between Liverpool and Everton

In a week when Kenny Dalglish claimed that it was as crucial to get a new shirt sponsor as it is to qualify for the Champions League, Steven Gerrard made clear to the Kop faithful that he did not agree with a performance of committed creativity that yielded a hat trick in last Saturday’s Merseyside derby. All three goals were expertly taken by the born and bred Liverpudlian who looks as though he is finally returning to full fitness following a troublesome groin injury.
Charlie Adam’s performance alongside Gerrard in central midfield also showed huge improvement in comparison to his showings over the last month or so, while a defence marshaled by the tattooed Scandinavian Skrtel also looked much more solid than in recent weeks. The fact that this victory came against David Moyes’ Everton, Liverpool’s local rivals, made the victory all the sweeter and resulted in our captain’s claim a few days later that we can still qualify for the Champions League despite being ten points behind Arsenal with ten games to go.

I was able to go to the game despite the fact that I live in London because a good school friend of mine got tickets to the game because he works for a company based in the city. But when it comes to finding a cheap hotel Liverpool centre can prove a real nightmare when it comes to the quality of accommodation on offer for the price one has to pay, and so we stayed in a hotel near the airport. We found it by googling ‘ cheap Liverpool airport hotel ’. The fact that we stayed near to said airport worked out surprisingly well due to the fact that our flights back to the capital were very early in the morning and the hotel provided a shuttle bus virtually from our beds all the way to the terminal.

It looks like it could be the result that changes Liverpool’s fortunes this season. The question will be whether the squad can continue the momentum that has begun to develop thanks to this result and push on towards the end of the season. If they are able to get to the FA Cup final and perhaps qualify for the Champions League - having already won the Carling Cup - then Merseysiders will have a lot more to cheer than just a new shirt sponsor. Trophies are what all fans and players desire.
