Innsbruck is the cultural and economic centre of western Austria and is one of the most famous and substantial tourist centres, with more than a million overnight stays. It is also a university city. Tourism is the most important source of income for the city authority, largely because of Innsbruck's beautiful town centre with its historic buildings, the friendly ambience and the extensive sport facilities both in winter and in summer.
Innsbruck is the capital city of the federal state of Tyrol in western Austria, located in the broad valley between high mountains with peaks up to 2,718 metres (8,917ft). It is an internationally renowned winter sports centre, and hosted the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics and the 1984 and 1988 Winter Paralympics. It is to host the 1st Winter Youth Olympics in 2012. Due to its location between high mountains, Innsbruck serves as an ideal place for skiing in winter, and mountaineering in summer. The finest Innsbruck hotels are close to the several ski resorts. The glaciated terrain in the Stubai Valley resort makes skiing possible even in summer months.
Besides skiing, the city is quite an attraction of its own. There are many Baroque buildings in the city centre with the most notable being the Golden Roof, the Imperial Church with the cenotaph of Maximilian the 1st, Holy Roman Emperor. There are also many interesting museums like the Ambras Castle, the Tyrolean State Museum, Tyrolean Museum of Popular Art, the Alpine Club museum among others. Good places for relax are the Innsbruck Botanic Garden and the Hofgarden.
Innsbruck may look relatively small and peaceful town, but actually the night life is well presented as well as the youth culture – there are several universities. Cultural events like the Four Hills Tournament, the Christmas fair and the Weeks of Ancient Music bring additional charm and atmosphere to the Tyrolean capital.
You can find the best conditions for a wonderful holiday in hotel Innsbruck.
