Visiting Aberdeen and Scotland

Aberdeen is a wonderful city to visit in Scotland because it has a vibrant culture and a rich heritage. It is where Annie Lennox was born and raised and is also where Lawrence of Arabia sought solace after his exploits during the First World War. If you are visiting the city I would certainly suggest that you go on the thirteen castle walk as this twenty-seven mile hike takes you through exquisite countryside and the castles that you see are exceptional. There is also the Glenfiddich distillery nearby where you can sample some of the finest single malt scotches that Scotland has to offer.
My personal favourite is the twelve-year matured whisky, which is brewed in oak barrels that have been soaked in port. You can also get great deals on an Aberdeen city centre hotel by having a look online at the deals that are available by booking early and through one of the local websites.
Aberdeen also provides a great base for seeing the rest of the country because it has superb transport links by rail or road. You can easily get to the capital city of Glasgow where you will find a vibrant nightlife and cosmopolitan shopping. There is also the Burrell collection in Pollok park, which is a collection of over 9000 pieces of artwork that include pieces by Degas and Cezanne. They were all donated to the city of Glasgow by Sir William Burrell and his wife Lady Constance Burrell, who both started collecting artwork in their teens. If you want to stay a few nights in Glasgow rather than making the trip back to Aberdeen then have a look on the Hilton Scotland website where you will find a selection of hotels that can cater for any budget.
If you are visiting Glasgow I would also recommend going to see an Old Firm derby football match between Glasgow Rangers and Celtic as these games are always fiery encounters due to the historic sectarian rivalry between the two sides.
