If you are thinking of taking a gap year from your studies to work abroad, the world is, excuse me for the cliché, but it is true... The world is your oyster.
If you live and work in the United Kingdom, than perhaps you would prefer to travel a bit further afield than Europe. Having said that though, there are countries in Southern Europe which you may consider to be radically different from the Europe you are familiar with.
The Balkans or countries like Romania and Bulgaria would definitely be an adventure. Of course there is the whole of the Asian Subcontinent, or even the Far East to consider.
Africa and Australia are also popular destinations for young students who have just graduated from university, or have finished their A-levels and have decided to go and live abroad in the hope of becoming a little bit more wise and worldly before they tackle the next stage of their lives.
Each and every one of those destinations has something unique to offer, as well as advantages and disadvantages. But I would recommend the Americas.
If you are into wildlife and people then central America is where both South and North America meet and mix in terms of the continent’s original people and species of life in general. It is a good place to start if you are looking to volunteer in Latin America.
Cost Rica for instance is a haven for butterflies. There are altogether about 1,251 species of the beautiful insects and roughly 8,000 types of moths discovered in the region. So her species have been collected and displayed as live specimens for butterfly sanctuaries all over the world - even as far as Kenya, Nairobi.
Costa Rican butterflies and moths have evolved into amazing adaptations to cope with a unique environment conjured up by the two greater halves of the continent. Just the opportunity to see the is a good enough reason to volunteer in Latin America. They can be mesmerising.
There Is No Rum In The Taps, But There Could Almost Be
Central and South America is a haven for wildlife and holiday activities. One of the places you must try to visit if you are thinking of taking a trip to that part of the world is Roatan. It is located between the islands of Utila and Guanja. It is the largest of all the Honduras Bay Islands the islands which was formally known as Ruatan and Rattan. It is about sixty kilometres in length, but less than eight kilometres in width at its widest point.
