The capital of Austria, Vienna is still a relatively small city, with a population of just two million. But it punches well above its weight as a tourist destination, with more sights and cultural events than in many much larger cities.
It is difficult to think of Vienna without the refrain from the Ultravox song of the same name reverberating through one’s mind, and it is not without good reason that the song refers to “pizzicato strings” and weaving music. Vienna is very much a musical city, and when choosing a hotel Vienna Austria offers many that are within easy reach of the city’s opera houses and classical music venues. It may have been pop music that brought the city of Vienna to international attention, but it is classical music that is truly at the heart of Vienna, having been home to Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Strauss.
Today, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra is among the best in the world, while the Vienna Boys’ Choir is also one of the top male voice choirs in the world today. Vienna is a beautiful as well as a musical city, with stunning medieval architecture and winding streets leading to picturesque public squares. When it comes to hotels Vienna has no end of options, and the city is well accustomed to welcoming international tourists of all budget levels.
As a result Vienna offers accommodation in all price brackets and to suit all styles - from big name chain hotels to small guest houses and stylish boutique hotels. Guests staying at hotels in Vienna will find themselves in a city that is many built around music and the arts - many of the city’s most beautiful buildings are theatres, opera houses and concert halls.
That is not so say that Vienna is a city that will appeal only to those with an interest in the arts and in high culture, Far from it. The city’s historic buildings lend it an atmosphere that is unique to Vienna, and a trip to the city’s old town should be the first port of call on any visit to the city. However, this is not to say that Vienna is stuck in the past - this is a city where the historic meets the modern, and Vienna is a glamorous, glitzy city that has fantastically lively nightlife in addition to the more sedate classical music scene.
