As the family packed for what was sure to be another epic vacation, I spent a few hours on the internet looking up attractions for our next travel destination. We had always dreamed of visiting the interesting country of Scotland, and now it was all coming true.
Everything was going according to plan so far: our country house hotel Scotland was booked, everyone in the house seemed to be getting along, and we even had my wife's mother to drive us to the airport; I just love it when things seem to fall into place. Regardless of how wonderful everything seemed to be going at this moment, I had a real dilemma. Scotland, the land of wonder, beauty, and history has so much to offer that it can be a struggle to pick the right attractions for your vacation.
While we had many family attractions picked for our vacation, I felt it somewhat necessary to attend something that would make this vacation unique to me. I had always enjoyed whisky, and felt that I should take this rare opportunity to visit a distillery; perhaps that whole “when in Rome” saying could be applied here, but I will refrain. Thus, I began my research into distilleries quite broadly, unsure of what I would find. Interestingly enough, I had many results to pick from, which was not that helpful. Therefore, I decided to pick one that I had heard of before.
The Bladnoch distillery re-opened its doors in 2000, after falling victim to financial issues that were quite common during the 1990s. Although it would have been more convenient if we were staying in a Central Glasgow hotel, the couple hours drive to this wonderful distillery allowed me to take in some of the natural beauty of Scotland. I hope you enjoy your trip to Scotland as much as we did.
